This pleasant excursion includes the dramatic Falls of Measach, the gentle gardens at Inverewe and even a loch with it’s own monster. This really is a tour with something for everyone.

From Inverness we will head westwards to lonely Achnasheen then travel through Glen Docherty towards Kinlochewe. Soon we will enter the Ben Eighe Nature Reserve which preserves an important remnant of the Caledonian pine forest and is home to a wide variety of animals including wild cats, deer and pine martens.

Our drive continues along the banks of Loch Maree, one of Scotland’s largest freshwater lochs. Just like Loch Ness it is said that Loch Maree is home to a monster! Gairloch is next. Superbly situated overlooking a sheltered sandy bay this pleasant community comprises of all the villages and hamlets that surround Loch Gairloch.

Inverewe Gardens is built on a craggy hillside with a majestic setting on the water’s edge of Loch Ewe. Despite being on the same latitude as Siberia the warming waters of the Gulf Stream allow all manner of exotic plants to flourish in this most surprising of locations. The garden has a famous Walled Garden with plants from around the world including Chinese rhododendrons, Tasmanian eucalypts and New Zealand daisy bushes as well as Woodland containing a canopy of Scots Pine trees - a unique feature. There are views from both low and high vantage points of Loch Ewe and the surrounding Highland scenery.

Leaving Inverewe Gardens we will follow the Atlantic Coast past sinister Gruinard Island and Little Loch Broom to Dundonnell. Next we’ll make a stop at Corrieshalloch Gorge. It’s a dizzying and exhilarating experience to look down on the torrent of water plunging 46m (150ft) over the Falls of Measach from the gently swaying suspension bridge. Corrieshalloch Gorge is truly one of the natural wonders of the Highlands.

Our last stop will be in the pretty fishing village of Ullapool before making our way back to Inverness through Garve and Contin.
